Spring width for a 1938 Plymouth

I have a 1938 Plymouth and I have heard that I should replace the springs that are 1.75-inches wide with ones that are 2.5-inches wide. Can the springs be made with narrow eyes so the existing hangers can be used? - Rick

Rick,

Yes, springs can be made wider with narrower eyes fit the hangers. But remember the spring seat at the axle is also made for 1.75 inch wide springs. So either the center section of the spring must be narrowed or the spring seat changed.

But there is absolutely no need to do so. While wider springs provided additional resistance to lateral twist, the difference between 1.75 inches and 2.5 inches is so minimal it is not worth the added cost or effort. Our advice is to stay with the stock width.
